JAPANESE LYRICS / ROMAJI / ENGLISH TRANSLATION:

Nyanko ni wa kankei ga nyai
It’s meowne of your busineows

Konnichi wa
Ohiru no news wo otsutae shimasu
Kyou mimei nora ken mofu mofu ku
Nekogashira kouen fukin ni
Osumai no shironotama san no
Niboshi ga ubawareru to iu
Jiken ga hassei shimashita
Nyao
Genzai mo hannin wa tousouchuu no moyou
Good afternoon
It is time to announce the midday news
Today at early dawn, in the neighborhood of Top Cat Park
In Mofumofu (Fluffy) District of Stray Prefecture
A robbery of dried sardines had occurred
In Mr. Shiro-no-Tama’s* residence
Neow,
It appears that the criminal is currently still on the run

Nebou shita nijikanme
Yubi sasarete mon yonbanme
Aa tte natte
Ii tte natte
Uu tte natte
Ee tte natte
Oo tte natte
Aah! tte natte
Pass sankaime
Overslept for 2nd period
Pointed out to answer Question 4
Thinking like “Aah”
Thinking like “Iih”
Thinking like “Uuh”
Thinking like “Eeh”
Thinking like “Ooh”
Realizing “Aah!”
I’ll pass for the 3rd time

Pokapoka otenkime
(Meh!)
Inemuri gojikanme
Onaka ippai
Test wa nemui
Kaminari sensei mo
Nuko shakai kenzai?
The cursed lukewarm weather
(Meh!*)
I’ve dozed off by 5th period
My stomach is full
And the test makes me drowsy
Is Mr. Thunder* also
Going strong in this nuko society?

Niboshi! Niboshi! Niboshi!
(Hai hai!)
Niboshi! Niboshi!
Kokusan! Kokusan!
Niboshi! Niboshi! Niboshi!
(Hai hai!)
(Okota no naka kara nuko punch!)
Dried sardines! Dried sardines! Dried sardines!
(Yeah yeah!)
Dried sardines! Dried sardines!
Domestic brand! Domestic brand!
Dried sardines! Dried sardines! Dried sardines!
(Yeah yeah!)
(A nuko punch from inside the kotatsu!)

Nuko ni naritai na
Yappa nuko ni naritai!
(Naritai!)
Yo no shisen wo hitorijime ni shite
(Nya nya nya nya!)
I want to be a nuko*
I just want to be a nuko!
(Be a nuko!)
Make the whole world’s gaze fall on you
(Meow meow meow meow!)

Sekai no jijou wa
Ohirune no ato ni shite
Donabe de marumariko
Kimama ni naite
Odoryanse
All of the world’s affairs
Can wait till after my afternoon nap
Curled into a round ball inside the earthenware pot
Purring just as I want
I command thee to dance*

Nebou shite ohirusugi
Maa ikka tte zuruyasumi
Uu
Nyaa tte naite
Nyaa tte naite
Nyaa tte naite
Nyaa tte naite
Nyaa tte naite
Wan tte naita
Ano ko wa daare?
Overslept till past noon
“Well, whatever” I say as I play hookey
Uuh
Purring like meow
Purring like meow
Purring like meow
Purring like meow
Purring like meow
Barking like woof
Who the heck is that kid?

Inokori otsukisama
Akaten dochira sama
Miso shiru kakerya
Sekai wa heiwa
Minna go issho ni saa
Shachihoko nyan de beam
Afterschool detention with the moon
Who are the ones with failing marks
If you pour a bowl of miso soup
The world will be at peace
Together with everyone, now let’s
Shoot a beam with the Shachihoko’s* meow

Niboshi! Niboshi! Niboshi!
(Hai hai!)
Niboshi! Niboshi!
Kokusan! Kokusan!
Niboshi! Niboshi! Niboshi!
(Hai hai!)
(Sekai wa kono te ni nuko punch!)
Dried sardines! Dried sardines! Dried sardines!
(Yeah yeah!)
Dried sardines! Dried sardines!
Domestic brand! Domestic brand!
Dried sardines! Dried sardines! Dried sardines!
(Yeah yeah!)
(The world throws a nuko punch into my hand!)

Nuko ni naritai na
Yappa nuko ni naritai!
(Naritai!)
Kimi no hiza de maruku natteitai
(Nya nya nya nya!)
I want to be a nuko
I just want to be a nuko!
(Be a nuko!)
I want to be curled up on your lap
(Meow meow meow meow!)

Ningen shakai no
Ankoku wo hashitteiku
Akubi wa nankaime?
Kimama ni naite
Odoryanse
Running in the darkness
Of human society
How many times have I yawned?
Purring just as I want
I command thee to dance

Kitto zense wa sorya mukashi no koto
Shippo furifuri shironyanko
Konna IQ ichi ni mo mitanai
Kiita koto aru uta da koto
Yoisa yoisa to hana ichimonme de
Nikkori shiteru sochira no ko
Zenbu dareka no negatta koto nara
Yotte wasurete odotte choudai!
Surely my past life is just a thing of the past
As a white cat with a fluttery tail
With even less than a fraction of my current IQ Score of 1
From a song that he’s heard of before
From “Hurrah hurrah”’s* and a game of Hanaichimonme*
The kid over there is grinning widely
If everything has been a result of someone else’s desires
Please drink, forget, and dance it all off!

Nuko ni naritai na
Yappa nuko ni naritai!
(Naritai!)
Ano ko to mou ichido
Oshaberi shitai!
(Nyanyanyanya!)
I want to be a nuko
I just want to be a nuko!
(Be a nuko)
I want to have a chat
With that girl just once more!
(Meow meow meow meow!)

Sekai no jijou wa
Ohirune no ato ni shite
Donabe de marumariko
Sui mo amai mo shireta koto
Nyanko ni wa kankei ga nyai!
All the world’s affairs
Can wait till after my afternoon nap
Curled into a round ball inside the earthenware pot
I’ve gotten to know both the sweet and the sour
But it’s meowne of your busineows!

*Translator Notes:

"Nuko" is an Internet term used for cats, pronounced "neko" in Japanese

"Shiratama" (白玉) is a common name for cats in Japan, commonly meaning "rice flour dumplings". However, the kanji literally means "white gem" and can add to the implication of Mr. Shiratama's status as a wealthy cat in a top-class neighborhood.

"Meh!" is short for "Dame!", and is a quick phrase used to scold children and pets to not do an action.

"Mr. Thunder" is represented as a menacing school teacher in the MV, but "thunder" adds depth to the role as cats tend to be afraid of thunder.

"~Ryanse" is an outdated form of speech from the Edo Period, meaning an authoritative "Please~" (~なさい)in contemporary Japanese. As such, it adds to the implication of a past life/era and its simplicity/festive nature being spoken of in the song.

"Shachihoko" is explained by Wikipedia to be "an animal in Japanese folklore with the head of a tiger and the body of a carp" (fabulous alternative definition here), which is slightly contradictory because tigers belong to the feline family but carps are the prey of cats. It is now preserved as an ornament to traditional temples and the like.

The original Japanese, "Yoisa yoisa", is originally a festival cheer later popularized in Nico Nico through the song "Indulging: Idol Syndrome" & Mafumafu's unique usage of the kaomoji on Twitter.

"Hana Ichimonme" (A Mace of Flowers) is a children's game played while singing explained here. The game's blatant division of "victory vs. loss" and conclusion through picking sides until only one person is left on one side can possibly add to the song's criticism at society, while still implying yearning at the bliss of childhood/the past life.
